Reality

So, this week I finnished our St Patrick's Day party. It was fun. A good amount of people cancelled at the last moment, but it was still fun for those who attended.

In preparation to the party I looked up some recipes to use during the party. Corned Beef (I corned my own) as well as others. A few years ago, my eldest neice introduced me to an 'Irish Car Bomb.' Its a mixture of Guiness, and a shot split equally between Jameson Whiskey and Bailey's Irish Cream. The latter two and poured into a single shot glass, which is then dropped into a pint glass. The resulting mixture almost immediately begins roiling and fizzing. The concoction needs to be 'chugged' instantly or else the mixture will curdle. Its a pleasant tasting beverage if not a bit agressive due to the pace of consumption.

While researching the recipe I started reading the associated comments added to the recipe websites. One struck me that has caused me to change my thinking. The comment was tagged as being posted by an Irishman. In essence it said 'this is truly and insulting name for this drink. As an Irishman who has lived in northern Ireland all his life, to find that a pub drink has found such an insulting name is beguiling. What is we Irish created a similar type of drink but named it 'burning towers' or a '9/11'. A drink that is set ablaze before being consumed. Would those of you in the US be insulted and take offense to that name?'
I well think we in the US would take such offense.
I guess it can be the little things in life that can cause such pain.
I shall rename my Guiness drink to something along the lines of 'foaming Guiness.' I'd be well to think a little bit more ahead of time.
